Homecoming 2021

Homecoming 2021 was a great weekend where we welcomed hundreds alumni, faculty and friends back home to High Point University! Everyone returned to enjoy the new additions to campus, sporting events, special events, entertainment and reunions. Homecoming brings us all back together in fellowship and friendship, and provides an opportunity to remember how special our alma mater truly means to each of us.

Awards include: Lifetime Achievement Award, Alumna of the Year, Alumni Service Award, President's Award and Top 10 Under 10 Young Alumni.

Laugh and sing your way through the evening with our own Acapella ensembles and the Charcoal Pony improve troupe as they put a collaborative, entertaining show for all members of the family.

Walk to Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer

Gene and Jane Kester International Promenade
Saturday, October 23 @ 9:00 a.m.

Join us on the promenade to help raise awareness for breast cancer month in a fun and engaging way, snacks and drinks will be provided. Participants can donate one dollar to go towards the Susan B Coleman Breast Cancer Foundation. Prizes will be given out for most laps, best pink outfit and best group team spirit. 



Nido and Mariana Qubein Children's Museum Tour

Nido and Mariana Qubein Children's Museum, High Point, NC
Saturday, October 23 @ 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Get a first glace look at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Children's Museum here in High Point during this special tour opportunity for HPU alumni and families during Homecoming 2021. The museum features a mix of entertainment, education and exploration on the roughly 4-acre site located just down the road from the HPU campus. Innovative exhibits include the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) Lab, outdoor double-decker carousel, Bricks Room with LEGOs, Courage Climber, Mars Academy, Hall of Mysteries and many more. Shuttles will be available for transportation from campus to the museum every 30 minutes leaving from the R. G. Wanek Center. 


 

Dr. Richard Bennington Book Signing

Dr. Richard Bennington, a retired Paul Broyhill professor of home furnishings, started teaching home furnishings at HPU in 1974. During his 39 years of service, he has concentrated academically on the manufacturing, marketing and merchandising of home furnishings. For many years, he served as Chair of the Department of Home Furnishings and Design, and is a past recipient of the High Point University Slane Distinguished Teaching and Service Award. Dr. Bennington has authored a book, "High Point University and the Furniture Industry," and will be on campus for a special book signing event during Homecoming 2021. 

High Point University was founded in 1924 as a small liberal arts college. The High Point Furniture Market was founded in 1909 and has grown to be the largest wholesale furniture market in the world. Over the past century, the furniture industry and the University have developed an ongoing, mutually beneficial partnership that has resulted in industry-specific programs for students. Discover the history of this relationship and the impact the real-world exposure has had on the students and the industry. Read the stories of several High Point University graduates who are successfully employed in various positions throughout the furniture business. High Point professor Richard Bennington unearths the history of a dynamic partnership.

At this special lunch, we invite all alumni who have graduated 50+ years ago to celebrate your loyal commitment to High Point University and membership in the Cornerstone Club. This will coincide with Class of 1970 and 1971 Reunions.

Culp Planetarium Shows

Wanek School of Natural Sciences, Culp Planetarium

In collaboration with the Wanek School of Natural Sciences, we invite you to watch full dome features shown in the Culp Planetarium. These programs present a fun, learning experience for the entire family! Each 35-minute show will run on the hour every hour. Movie showings include: Black Holes, Spooky Space, Cell! Cell! Cell!, and Expedition Reef. Make sure to sign up and reserve your seat.

Show your school spirit and bring the family to cheer on the HPU women’s soccer team at Vert Stadium as they take on the Hampton Pirates. Admission is free.

Bring the family to enjoy fun activities while reconnecting with your classmates and their families. This event will be filled with live music, games, bounce houses, face painting and more! Food and drinks will be provided by local food truck vendors. A signature event for your Homecoming Weekend experience!



HPU Men’s Soccer vs. Winthrop

Vert Stadium & Witcher Athletic Center

Pack the stands at Vert Stadium following the Homecoming Panther Tailgate to enjoy a competitive game of men’s soccer against the Winthrop Eagles.  Admission is free.

Sunday, October 24 @ 10:00 a.m.

Join us for a special Homecoming Chapel Service at the Charles E. Hayworth, Sr. Memorial Chapel. The service will include a moment of remembrance honoring alumni, faculty, staff and students who have passed away since October 26, 2020.

Any alumni who would like to participate in the choir for this service are asked to meet at the Chapel at 9am for a rehearsal with Dr. Marc Foster.



Sunday Homecoming Brunch
