HPU Students Built More Than
Two Dozen Beds For Veterans

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 19, 2019 – High Point University students spent their day on Sunday, Nov. 17, hosting the annual “Build for the Brave” event through the nonprofit Bed Brigade, founded by HPU student and senior, Kaylor Ramey.

The Bed Brigade built 25 beds for veterans this year. The beds and blankets were donated to Patriot Villas, a facility that provides shelter and services for homeless veterans in the Charleston, South Carolina, area.

“We are helping a brave group of individuals who gave a huge sacrifice for us,” said HPU sophomore, Sophie Carter. “Because of them, we can continue to live in a country where we have freedom. They have done so much for us, so the least we can do is build a bed where they can rest.”

This year, the event was organized by Ben Reedy, an HPU sophomore.

“This is a group of students who recognize the sacrifices veterans have made to keep us safe,” said Reedy. “We want to give back to those in need.”

Bed Brigade was founded by Ramey and her father when she was 12 years old. They began their work by partnering with local churches and now have expanded the nonprofit to several branches throughout the country, including High Point.
