Daimler Trucks North America Donates to HPU's Congdon School of Health Sciences

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 30, 2018 –
Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), parent company of High Point’s Thomas Built Buses, is supporting High Point University’s Congdon Hall and Congdon School of Health Sciences with a $1 million donation.

“This building and all programs in it represent an improvement in the quality of life for the people of High Point, throughout the state of North Carolina, throughout the country and even globally,” says Dr. Daniel Erb, dean of the Congdon School of Health Sciences. “The programs here have already improved the individual and public population of health for many people, and that’s really what this is all about.”

The Congdon School of Health Sciences and the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy were opened at High Point University in August 2017 to educate the future physical therapists, physician assistants, and pharmacists studying at High Point University. The building was named for Earl Congdon, the executive chairman of Old Dominion Freight Line, one of America’s leading transportation logistic companies with over 20,000 employees. He and his wife, Kitty, and their family are strong supporters of HPU and the High Point community.

“This gift reflects the mission and the ties that bind HPU, the Congdon family, and Daimler Trucks North America together, as we all have an interest in the health and wellbeing of people in our communities who drive our trucks, build our buses, and support our businesses,” says Roger Nielsen, CEO of Daimler Trucks North America. “Our partnership is strong in improving the health of people in the area.”

“An incredible example of collaboration can be found in the relationship with the Congdon family, Old Dominion Freight Line, Daimler Trucks, High Point University, and our students and faculty providing health care to our community,” says HPU President Nido Qubein. “When we work together, we can better our city and the lives of the people who live here.”

Daimler Trucks North America’s Thomas Built Buses business is based in High Point, N.C., where it manufactures a full line of school, activity, commercial, and childcare buses. Nearly 2,000 people from the area are employed by Thomas Built Buses.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is the leading heavy-duty truck manufacturer in North America.
