HPU Students Donate $16,000 to
World Relief Triad

High Point University students continue to give generously of their time, money and efforts. HPU students in the Student Government Association and the Volunteer Center co-sponsored a $16,000 check to benefit World Relief Triad.

The money will help support the resettlement of Afghan evacuees in the Triad who were impacted by the U.S. operation in Afghanistan or under threat from the Taliban.

It is an honor to have the opportunity to give to an organization that will directly aid in the resettlement of Afghan refugees,” says Dalton Lucas, a senior and Bonner Leader from Virginia. “I look forward to seeing our new neighbors thrive in our community.”

Half of the money will support family aid like transportation, housing, utilities and food. The rest will aid in staffing to handle the rise in displaced families.

Abby Ray, communications and advocacy coordinator of World Relief Triad, graduated from HPU this year. She says HPU students are creating a lasting change by this generous gift.

“I could not be prouder of the action that I see followed by the words of these HPU students,” says Ray. “Working in the missions services department at World Relief, I know what it looks like when a church, school, organization or group of people is mobilized for serving the vulnerable, and I see that in this gift.”

This donation is another example of HPU’s commitment to giving back and supporting the local community. Each year, HPU students, faculty and staff contribute 110,000 hours of service.

“As president of HPU’s Volunteer Center, it is an honor to donate $16,000 from our budget to help the Afghan families thrive in the Triad area,” says Aleah Hayes, a senior from Los Angeles, California.

The World Relief Triad’s goal is to raise $200,000 to help resettle Afghan evacuees.
