HPU Students Donate 750 Stockings
To The Salvation Army
HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 12, 2019 – Today, High Point University students gathered to pack 750 stockings for children in the local community in support of the Salvation Army’s annual Stuff a Stocking Campaign.
“I am honored to work with service organizations like the Salvation Army to bridge the gap between HPU and the community,” said Tucker Wilson, HPU junior and Student Government Association service chair. “At the end of the day, my job is to help people, and whether it is stuffing stockings or volunteering at a food drive, I realize the impact we are making in the lives of those on the receiving end.”
This year, the High Point Salvation Army set a goal of filling 850 stockings. With the help of HPU students, they were able to surpass this and fill 1,000 stockings so that every child in need in the local community will receive one.
“We appreciate the students who give back to the community,” said Beth Sturdivant, major and co-advisor for the High Point Salvation Army. “HPU is such a giving university and we are so thankful for the partnership we have with them.”
Sturdivant and Wilson joined student volunteers to load the stuffed stockings into a van to be delivered to local children. For the last nine years, HPU’s Student Government Association has invited students to support this initiative, which is part of the university’s annual 110,000 hours of community service.
